Traditional Filipino Christmas liturgy, Simbang Gabi, planned for Dec. 16

RecordLogo-FThe Simbang Gabi Christmas Mass, a tradition of Filipino Catholics, will be celebrated on Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will preside.

According to the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry, Simbang Gabi means “night of worship” and is a typical way of preparing for the “great feast of Christmas.” Filipino Catholics traditionally attend Mass for the nine days leading up to Christ’s birth, according to the office.
