Teachers will meet to launch new school year

Approximately 850 teachers from 38 Catholic elementary schools will gather at 9 a.m. Aug. 10 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road, for the annual “Opening School Rally.”

The theme of this year’s event is “Catholic Schools: The Arms of God,” and the keynote address will be given by Dr. Mary McDonald, former superintendent of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Memphis.

After the address, Father Mark Spalding vicar general of the Archdiocese of Louisville, will celebrate Mass. And following the liturgy, representatives of the Catholic Education Foundation will present this year’s Ulmer Awards to local teachers.
