St. Joseph Church will host organ concert Sept. 21

St. Joseph Church in Butchertown will again host its annual Oktoberfest organ concerts, which will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 21.

The concerts at the church, located at 1406 E. Washington St., began when the late Father Jack Schindler was the pastor there. A number of local organists, including Philip Hines, music director and organist at Holy Spirit Church, have participated in most of the annual concerts and will again this year.

This year’s schedule of performances and performers is:

4 p.m. German Mass — The prelude will begin at 3:45 p.m. with guest trumpeter Jerry Amend.
6 p.m. — Susan Arru, minister of music and organist at St. Joseph Church.
6:45 p.m. — Rick Knoop, music minister and organist at St. Francis of Rome Church.
7:30 p.m. — Philip Hines, music director and organist at Holy Spirit Church. He will be accompanied by The Brass Company Quintet; Dr. Reese Land on solo trumpet, and Paola Manrique-Land on violin.

The event is free and open to the public.
