St. Francis Xavier will host ‘Introduction to Islam’

St. Francis Xavier Church in Mount Washington, Ky. will host a program called “Introduction to Islam: A Dialogue” on Sept. 25 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The presenters will be Father William Hammer, pastor of the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Ky., and St. Michael Church in Fairfield, Ky., and Mohammed Shams, who came to the U.S. in 1964 from Iran.

Shams taught at Bardstown High School for more than 20 years before retiring. He is a practicing Muslim and serves as assistant to the chaplain at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.
