St. Francis Xavier will hold ‘parish renewal’ Sept. 23-26

MT. WASHINGTON, Ky. — Dominican Father Frank Sutman, a former infantry officer, missionary to Africa and Russia, and a former prison chaplain, will lead a three-day “Parish Renewal” program for St. Francis Xavier Church here.

Father Sutman, who lives at St. Stephen Priory in Dover, Mass., will speak during all three days of the Sept. 23 to Sept. 26 program, which is entitled “It Isn’t Who I Am, But Whose I Am — Our Gospel Pure and Simple.”

Sessions will be held each evening during the renewal at 7 p.m., beginning with a brief prayer service, then including Father Sutman’s presentation followed by a question and answer session. Childcare will be provided for the evening sessions.

At noon during each day of the renewal program, a “Parish Mission Mass” will be held.

According to a news release from St. Francis Xavier parish, Father Sutman is 63 and is a priest who likes to “keep it real” as it helps people return to the basics of prayer. According to the release, Father Sutman tries to address “the real needs of men and women just trying to get through the week by the grace of God.”

St. Francis Xavier Church is located at 155 Stringer Lane in Mt. Washington. For additional information on the program, call Lisa Downs at 502-955-5366.
