St. Bernard parish will mark 50th anniversary

St. Bernard Church celebrated the first Mass in its newly built church at 7500 Tangelo Drive on Oct. 18, 1964. The church will mark its 50th anniversary with a special Mass Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. Bishop Charles Thompson of Evansville, Ind., a son of the parish, is expected to concelebrate the Mass.

Parishioners and former parishioners are invited to attend, as are other sons and daughters of the parish who entered a religious vocation. Clergy and religious who served at the parish are invited, too. Mass will be followed by a dinner.

St. Bernard School also is marking its golden jubilee. Current eighth-graders will be the school’s 50th graduating class in the spring of 2015. To celebrate the milestone, all of the school’s alumni are invited to take part in the school’s sixth annual Wildcat Walk on Sept. 26 and/or to make a donation for the event.

The walk is a fundraiser to benefit improvements in school technology, classrooms and other school facilities.
