This spring, St. Athanasius School, 5915 Outer Loop, held an event to raise funds for school operations — a sticky event at that.
The students raised more than $3,700 by selling Go-N-Peel coupons.
As an incentive for students to sell as many coupon cards as possible, Principal Diane Arrow agreed to let the students “stick it to her” by taping her to a wall, said Nicole Durbin, treasurer of the parent teacher organization at St. Athanasius. The more cards a student sold the more tape strips he or she earned.
On May 9, students used more than 300 strips of brightly colored duct tape to tape Arrow to the wall. She stood on a small stool as the students took about 50 minutes to completely attach their principal to a wall.
“As the last piece was placed, the stool was removed and there she was feet dangling and stuck to the wall,” Durbin said. “Mrs. Arrow was a good sport and she had fun bantering with the students as ‘they stuck it to her.’ ”
Arrow, who has been St. Athanasius principal for 16 years, will be retiring at the end of this school year.
Diana,
You’re a gutsy woman! Not sure I would be so willing to do this, but what fun the students must have had! You have given them a lifelong memory in support of the less fortunate! Bravo!
