Sr. Theresa McManus dies at Sansbury Care Center

Dominican Sister of Peace Theresa McManus died Feb. 4 at Sansbury Care Center on the St. Catharine campus in Springfield, Ky. She was 83 and had been a religious for 63 years.

Sister McManus, a native of West Lynn, Mass., served as an educator, health care administrator and in a variety of other roles. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she was a teacher at Sts. Simon and Jude, St. Lawrence and St. Stephen Martyr schools. She also taught or served as a principal or bursar at schools in Illinois, Massachusetts, Arkansas and Kentucky.

After a career in education, Sister McManus served as the administrator of Sansbury Care Center at St. Catharine and later served as the administrator of the Dominican Center in Massachusetts and led the sisters’ development office. She moved to St. Catharine a decade ago where she volunteered until last month when she moved to the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister McManus is survived by her sister, Dominican Sister of Peace Christine McManus and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Feb. 8 at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel with burial in the St. Catharine Motherhouse Cemetery.
