Spalding University’s low-residency Master of Fine Arts in Writing Program has joined with the Speed Art Museum to begin “Spalding at the Speed: A Gathering of MFA and Community Writers.”
The program will be launched with a reading from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. April 18 at the local Speed Gallery 822 E. Market St. Those who will be reading from their works include Kentucky poet Leatha Kendrick and novelist Mary Popham. Fiction writer Bonnie Omer Johnson, poet Michael Jackman and essayists Ashlee Clark Thompson, Karyl Anne Geary and Angie Mimms will also be on the program.
The evening will open with a “jump starting” segment, according to a news release from Spalding. That segment will involve an open-mic session for one- to two-minute readings of works in progress. Attendees are invited to bring unfinished works to read.
The “Spalding at the Speed” program will involved a monthly reading series that will showcase, through short readings, the work of Spalding MFA students, alumni, staff, and faculty, as well as writers from the local literary community. The readings are free and open to the public.
