Sisters of Providence mark 70th jubilees

Two Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., with ties to the Archdiocese of Louisville are celebrating 70 years of religious life this year.

Sister Barbara Ann Bluntzer, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, entered the congregation on June 7, 1949, and professed perpetual vows on Jan. 23, 1957.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Bluntzer served as the director of religious education at St. Mildred Church in Somerset, Ky., from 1980-1982 (now part of the Diocese of Lexington, Ky.).

She has also ministered in Indiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and Illinois. She currently serves as a tutor at St. Patrick School in Terre Haute, Ind.

Sister Joann Quinkert, formerly Sister Joan Margaret, is a native of New Albany, Ind. She entered the community on Jan. 6, 1949, and professed perpetual vows on Aug. 15, 1956.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Quinkert served as a pastoral associate at Holy Cross Church in Burkesville, Ky., from 1989-1991.

She has also ministered in Indiana, North Carolina, Iowa and Alabama. She currently volunteers at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.
