Sisters of Charity honored five jubilarians last month

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth held a celebration last month to honor five sisters celebrating jubilees of 55, 65, 70 and 75 years. The sisters honored were:

Sister Eleanora Mattingly — 75 years — She served as a teacher in Kentucky, Ohio, Massachusetts, Mississippi and Tennessee. Later, she served at Our Lady of Peace Hospital.

Sister Marian Haney — 70 years — She served as a teacher and principal in Kentucky, Ohio, Massachusetts, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Sister Betty Shelton — 65 years — She served as a teacher and principal in her early ministry. She went on to minister in pastoral care and she started the Appalachian Outreach program of St. Joseph Hospital, ministering to discharged patients in Eastern Kentucky.

Sister Marie McCarty — 65 years — She served at schools in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Massachusetts, including more than 30 years of service as a teacher, administrator and volunteer minister at St. Theresa Church in Rhodelia, Ky.

Sister Anna Marie Canary — 55 years — She served as a teacher, principal and parish minister in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio and Virginia. She was active in music ministry and teaching music. She also formerly led the SCN mission advancement office.
