Sisters of Charity of Nazareth relief team aiding Mississippi town

A team of volunteers, led by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth disaster relief program, traveled to Durant, Miss., May 8 to aid the poor, rural community that have suffered under recent storms.

Storms raked across the South and Midwest April 30, bringing floods and tornadoes. At least 13 deaths were attributed to the storms, including one in Durant, according to the Associated Press.

The Sisters of Chsrity of Nazareth have long been connected to the Durant area. That’s where the late Sister Paula Merrill served as a nurse practitioner until she was murdered in August of 2016.

The disaster relief team planned to return home tomorrow, May 12.
