Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Austin Donovan dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Austin Donovan, 85, a native of Lexington, Ky., died Sept. 5 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 65 years.

Sister Donovan served in elementary and secondary education for four decades in Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Massachusetts. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Patrick School, Presentation Academy and Spalding University in Louisville; and at Bethlehem Academy in Bardstown.

Sister Donovan retired to the Nazareth Motherhouse in 2003 where she volunteered in the Nazareth archives and served in the Apostolate of Prayer. She had been at Nazareth Home since February.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret Guilfoyle of Cincinnati; a brother, James Patrick Donovan of Plainville, Ill.; and members of her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sept. 9 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at St. Vincent Church. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
