Sister of Charity of Nazareth Martha Mahoney dies at 86

SCNSister of  Charity of Nazareth Martha Mahoney, 86, died Dec. 15 at Nazareth Home. She was a native of Owensboro, Ky., and had been an SCN for 66 years.

Sister Mahoney was a teacher in Kentucky and Virginia for 29 years and served in Memphis, Tenn., in provincial administration as secretary-treasurer from 1980 to 1985. She was also Director of Finance for Nazareth Campus Services from 1985 to 1995. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Mahoney served at St. Frances of Rome and St. John Vianney schools. She had been a resident of Nazareth Home since 2013.

Survivors include two brothers, Dick Mahoney of Cincinnati, Ohio, and William Mahoney of Denver, Colo.

Visitation will begin on Dec. 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home in Louisville. It will continue on Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. in Nazareth, Ky. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent, followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.
