Sister Mary Sheila Higdon, an educator, dies at 88

Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Mary Sheila Higdon died Feb. 17 in Owensboro, Ky. She was 88 and in her 70th year of religious life.

Sister Higdon, a native of Owensboro, served as an educator and parish minister for 61 years in Kentucky, Missouri and Nebraska.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at St. Bartholomew School from 1952 to 1959 and served as director of the St. Angela Education Center from 1970 to 1972.

She is survived by two brothers, Hugh and Eugene Higdon, both of Owensboro, nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Feb. 20 at Mt. St. Joseph, with burial in the motherhouse cemetery.
