Sister Mary Renee Monaghan, a former teacher, dies at age 84

Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph Mary Renee Monaghan, 84, died Aug. 30 at Mount St. Joseph. She was a native of Central City, Ky., and was in her 65th year of religious life.

Sister Monaghan was a teacher at St. Catherine School in New Haven, Ky.; at Our Lady of Mercy School in Hodgenville, Ky., and was principal of St. Ignatius Martyr School in Louisville from 1974 to 1979. She also served in the Diocese of Owensboro and in Missouri and Indiana.

Survivors include three sisters, Ann Boarman of Boonville, Ind.; Sister of Charity of Nazareth June Monaghan of Nazareth, Ky.; and Ursuline Sister Michael Ann Monaghan of Maple Mount; two brothers, Anthony and Donald Monaghan of Central City; nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sept. 4 at Mount Saint Joseph. Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, 8001 Cummings Road, Maple Mount, Ky., 42356.
