Sister Ignatius Maria Barbour dies at age 85

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Ignatius Maria Barbour died at Nazareth Home on Nov. 20. She was 85 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 55 years.

Sister Barbour, a native of Louisville, served for 49 years in child care, community service and social service in Kentucky and Virginia.

She is survived by her stepmother Lillian O’Nan Barbour of Loretto, Ky., siblings Leah Turner of Pewee Valley, Ky., Mary Katherine Barbour, Thomas Barbour, John Barbour and Donald Barbour all of New Haven, Ky., and her religious community.

Two memorial Masses were celebrated for Sister Barbour. The first was celebrated on Nov. 24 at St. Vincent Church on the campus of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Nazareth, Ky. The second was celebrated on Nov. 26 at Nazareth Home in Louisville.

Sister Barbour was cremated and her remains are buried in Nazareth Cemetery in Nazareth.
