Sister of Charity Emily Pugh, an educator, dies

SCNSister of Charity of Nazareth Emily Pugh died June 28 at Nazareth Home. She was 91 and in her 72nd year of religious life.

Sister Pugh, a native of Bardstown, served as an elementary school teacher in Tennessee, Ohio, Massachusetts and Kentucky from 1945 to 1963. Sister Pugh also taught English, French and history at high schools in Alabama, Massachusetts and Kentucky — including the Archdiocese of Louisville — from 1963 to 1972.

She also served as a director of religious education in Massachusetts.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

Visitation will be at Nazareth Home July 5 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and after 4 p.m. at St. Vincent Church on the campus of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Nazareth, Ky.

The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated July 6 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Church followed by burial in Nazareth cemetery.
