Scouts receive religious emblems

The Catholic Committee on Scouting held its annual Prayer Service and Emblem Presentation at the Cathedral of the Assumption Jan. 27. Father Troy Overton and Deacon Dan Bisig presided at the service. More than 100 Scouts and adult leaders in Scouts BSA, formerly Boy Scouts, were honored.

Awards were presented to the following:

Five adult leaders received the St. George Emblem for Outstanding Service to Catholic Scouting. They are Eric Benson, Troop 380, St. Patrick Church; Debbie Belt, Pack and Troop 175, St. Edward Church; Matt Scobee, Pack and Troop 346, St. Gabriel Church; Louis Leppert, Troop 776, St. Francis Xavier Church in Mt. Washington, Ky.; and Joe Venezia, Pack and Troop 765, St. Michael Church.

The following Scout units received the Pope Paul VI Quality Unit Gold Award: Troop 175, St. Edward; Troop 243, St. John Paul II Church; Pack 380, St. Patrick.

The following units received the Silver distinction: Pack 308, St. Bernadette Church; Pack 346, St. Gabriel; Pack 366 and Troop 366, St. Athanasius Church.

Six Scouts were recognized for receiving all four Catholic Religious emblems — Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei, Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII. They are: John Warren, Troop 243, St. John Paul II; Adam Fish, Troop 327, St. Albert the Great Church; Jacob Rummell, Jonathan Shrode and Austin Weaver, Troop 380, St. Patrick; Daniel Harrison, Troop 765, St. Michael.

The Pope Pius XII Emblem for high school age Scouts was presented to Scouts in the following units.

Troop 243, St. John Paul II — John Warren.

Troop 327, St. Albert the Great — Adam Fish.

Troop 380, St. Patrick — Ryan Benson (Epiphany), Jacob Rummell (St. Albert), Jonathan Shrode and Austin Weaver.

Crew 380, St. Patrick — Natalie Young.

Troop 765, St. Michael — Daniel Harrison and Anthony Striepe.

The following Scouts received the Ad Altare Dei Emblem:

Troop 56, Fern Creek United Methodist Church — Jayce Evans (St. Bernard) and Spencer Marks (St. Francis Xavier).

Troop 67, St. Stephen Martyr — Isaac Bawa (St. Frances of Rome), Austin Hoskinson, Daven McDaniel, and Rusty Michalski.

Troop 175, St. Edward — Reece Bayens, Ryan Belt, Dylan McArthur.

Troop 243, St. John Paul II — Jonathan Heitkemper (St. Martin of Tours), Michael Huber, Nathan King and Michael Pemberton (St. Gabriel).

Troop 321, Middletown United Methodist Church St. Bernadette — Josh Harris.

Troop 333, Busy Lady Quilt Shop, St. Francis Xavier, Mt. Washington — Nathan Abell.

Troop 346, St. Gabriel — Ben Frick, Ethen Scobee and Jacob Stinson.

Troop 775, St. Francis Xavier, Mt. Washington — Luke Aubrey, Christina Collett and Corey Hundley.

In addition, 39 Cub Scouts received the Parvuli Dei (Child of God Emblem) and 29 Cub Scouts received the Light of Christ Award.
