Salute to THE GAME breaks another record

The annual Salute to THE GAME luncheon, hosted by the Catholic Education Foundation, again netted a record amount.

The luncheon, which celebrates the nationally-recognized St. Xavier-Trinity high school football rivalry game set for tomorrow, Sept. 27, raised $450,000 for the CEF, topping last year’s record of $425,000.

The event, which was held Sept. 25 at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville, attracted 1,100 guests, according to a news release from the foundation.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the CEF in its work to support Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Louisville. Since its inception, the luncheon has raised more than $2.7 million.

When the first luncheon was held in 2008, the event netted $25,000, said Richard A. Lechleiter, president of the CEF.

“Who would have ever dreamed that 11 short years later this hallmark community event would lift our mission to these incredible heights! How blessed we are by all of our friends in the St. Xavier and Trinity communities for allowing the foundation to benefit from the storied rivalry,” said Lechleiter.
