The school announced Dec. 10 that it received $250,000 from the estate of the late Ann Kathryn Murphy, a 1965 graduate. The school will also receive the benefits of a life insurance policy to form a $2 million endowment fund.

“The fund will provide financial aid to young women who desire to attend Sacred Heart Academy, are academically motivated and because of financial challenges would otherwise be unable to attend the school,” said the announcement.

Murphy went on to serve in the military, where she achieved the rank of commander in the United States Navy and had a distinguished career in the field of communications engineering.

According to the school’s announcement, Murphy retired as the chief of the White House support branch with the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency. She died in February.
