Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz officially opened the Holy Doors for the Year of Mercy at the Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville Dec. 13 during the 9:30 a.m. Mass. The doors, located on the north side of the Cathedral, lead to a series of seven stations, including the Cathedral’s Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The other stations include Scripture readings, prayers and reminders about the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

The Holy Doors will be open to the public for pilgrimage from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until Mass begins at 5:30 p.m.

Holy Doors at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Ky., were opened on Dec. 12. Holy Doors are also available at 16 other Archdiocese of Louisville parishes.
