Passionist Father Richard Johnson, 90, dies

Passionist Father Richard Johnson, 90, died June 27. He was anticipating celebrating his 70th anniversary of religious profession on July 9.

Father Johnson, a native of California, professed his Passionist vows in 1944 and was ordained a priest in 1951. He served as a seminary professor, associate pastor, retreat center staff member, auxiliary military chaplain and an itinerant preacher.

Survivors include his Passionist community and numerous relatives and friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held June 30 at the Passionist Community Chapel, 1924 Newburg Road. The burial will be held on July 2 at the Passionist cemetery in Sierra Madre, Calif.
