‘Mercy Day’ is celebrated with a week of activities

Mercy-Academy-Logo-wStudents at Mercy Academy celebrated “Mercy Day,” which is observed Sept. 24 by the Sisters of Mercy and the schools they sponsor, by taking part in a week of activities.

The activities started with a visit to members of the Sisters of Mercy at the convent on Tyler Lane Sept. 19.

Sister of Mercy Paulanne Diebold and Sister of Mercy Pat Pepitone visited students at the school on Sept. 20 where they spoke about their foundress Catherine McAuley and her mission to help the poor, sick and uneducated.

The closing event was a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz on the school’s campus Sept. 23. Students who are recipients of “Mercy Day” scholarships, which are awarded based on financial need, were recognized with a certificate and a yellow rose during the Mass.
