Little Sister of the Poor dies at 80

Little Sister of the Poor Catherine De l’Assomption Donovan, 80, died Aug. 22 after a long illness. She was a native of Boston, Mass., and entered the Little Sisters of the Poor in 1950. She pronounced her vows in December of 1952 and cared for the elderly in Michigan and Philadelphia before serving in the Far East and Australia for more than 30 years.

She came to Louisville several times during the course of her ministry, returning to the community here in 2010 and continued to care for the elderly.

Survivors include a brother,  William Donovan and a sister, Patricia Tobin.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 25 in the chapel of the Little Sisters of the Poor St. Joseph Home for the Aged. Burial was in St. Louis Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in honor of Sister Donovan may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 15 Audubon Plaza Drive, Louisville, Ky., 40217.
