Students at Holy Trinity School held their second “Walk-A-Thon” Oct. 5 in the neighborhood around the Cherrywood Road School. The event, in which the entire student body of 750 took part, is a major fund-raising effort for the school.

And, as it did in its initial year, the Walk-A-Thon raised more than $40,000 for school programs and improvements.

“We’re so proud of our students and their families for continually rising to every challenge we put before them,” said Holy Trinity principal Jack Richards. “As administrators we aim to instill an appreciation for healthy living and responsibility for our environment, but we also thrill in seeing their excitement and enthusiasm on walk day.”
In the past, the school had raised funds through an annual magazine drive. In 2011, the Holy Trinity administration and Parent-Teacher Association decided to replace the magazine effort with a “greener” walk.

The walk covered two kilometers around the school, and the funds raised will be used to provide technology enhancements as well as fund other school-wide programs. Those programs include Peace Builders, Good Samaritans and the school’s new student hospitality program. The funds will also be used to cover the expenses of field trips and guest speakers.

Funds will also be used to cover teacher expense accounts which are used for curriculum enhancement and supplies, according to a news release from the school. Money from the event will also be used by each grade level’s “mission project,” which provides services and assistance to the Louisville community.
