Sister of Charity of Nazareth Ann Victoria Cruz dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Ann Victoria Cruz, 94, died at Nazareth Home Sept. 15. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 75 years.

Sister Cruz, a native of Waverly, Ky., served in elementary and secondary education in Kentucky as both teacher and principal for 25 years. She also served in provincial administration and pastoral and rural ministry.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she taught at Holy Name School and ministered at St. Benedict Church in Lebanon Junction, Ky., St. James Church in Elizabethtown, Ky., and St. Catherine Church in New Haven, Ky. She also served at Mission House in Louisville, as coordinator of Nazareth Motherhouse and as the SCN provincial superior.

Survivors include two brothers John Bertrand and William Joseph Cruz of Waverly, Ky.; two sisters Margaret Helen Purdy of Loveland, Ohio., and Teresa Ann Ithurburn of Yuba City, Calif.; and members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky., followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 18, at Nazareth Home and after 4 p.m. at St. Vincent. There will be a prayer service at St. Vincent at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18.
