Holy Spirit Church to host a organ recital

Holy Spirit Church at 3345 Lexington Road will host a recital by organist Margaret Dickinson at 3 p.m. Sept. 28.

Dickinson will perform on the Rev. Joseph M. McGee Memorial Pipe Organ. She is a Fulbright scholar who studied in Germany with famed organist Helmut Walcha. She served as keyboardist for the Louisville Bach Society Chorus and Orchestra for 47 years.

Dickinson, for 48 years, was director of music and organist for Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville. She will be joined by organist Glenna Armstrong Metcalfe in a performance of Gustav Merkel’s Sonata in D Minor, Opus 30. This rarely-performed piece was written to be played by two organists, in other words, it must be performed using four hands and four feet.

A reception in the church rotunda will follow the recital, which is free and open to the public. For information, call Phil Hines at 893-3982.
