The fall 40 Days for Life campaign, which maintains round-the-clock vigils for 40 days, will run from Sept. 25 to Nov. 3. Archdiocese of Louisville parishes, parishioners and others are invited to take part.
The nationwide prayer campaign is held twice a year — in the fall, coinciding with the October Respect Life Month, and during Lent.
Calling for an end to abortion, the campaign organizes peaceful public vigil, prayer and fasting. The local vigil takes place outside the EMW Women’s Surgical Center, 136 W. Market St.
Volunteers who sign up for shifts gather on the sidewalk to pray peacefully in hour-long shifts 24 hours a day.
All who participate in the prayer vigil are asked to conduct themselves in a Christ-like way, organizers said.
More than 500 local parishioners typically participate in each campaign, according to Ed Harpring, pro-life coordinator for the Archdiocese of Louisville.
Parish groups and individuals may sign up for shifts at www.40daysforlife.com/louisville.
