Event will aid free community restaurant in Portland neighborhood

The Table of Plenty, an outreach ministry of Good Shepherd Church, will hold a gift party Nov. 24 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to help bolster the ministry’s budget. The event will be held at the former St. Cecelia Church’s Resurrection Hall, 2519 St. Cecilia St.

On the last Wednesday of each month, The Table of Plenty volunteers turn Resurrection Hall into a restaurant for residents of the surrounding Portland neighborhood.

Parishioners and organizers operate The Table of Plenty just as if it were a regular restaurant with servers and a maitre’d. But there’s no charge for the fare at this eatery. It was established in 2010 as a way to build community relations in the neighborhood and alleviate the strain on those who run out of funds near the end of the month.

The gift party on Nov. 24, called “A Cornucopia of Gifts,” will offer a one-stop shopping experience featuring Avon, Scentsy, UL/UK Etched Glass, Punkerdoodles, handcrafted items and jewelry. Sales representatives are donating a large portion or all of their profits to The Table of Plenty. The event also will include a silent auction. All donations will benefit the ministry.
