‘Encountering Mary in Catholicism and Islam’ to take place at St. Agnes

A program entitled “Encountering Mary in Catholicism and Islam: A Devotional” will be presented Dec. 10 from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 1920 Newburg Road.

According to a press release “Mary (Maryam in Arabic) is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an and regarded as the highest of all blessed women.” The event aims for Catholics and Muslims to “come together in their devotion to the Blessed Mother,” said the release.

The presenters will be Sister of St. Benedict Kathryn Huber, Passionist Father Sebastian McDonald and Dr. Riffat Hassan, a Muslim theologian and professor emerita at the University of Louisville.

The program will be presented by The Salaam Network, an interfaith group whose mission is to build bridges of understanding and harmony from a knowledge-based foundation.
