‘Empty Bowls’ dinner planned Oct. 11

Highlands Community Ministries’ annual Empty Bowls dinner is planned for Oct. 11 in Bellarmine University’s Frazier Hall.

The charity announced last year, its 15th year for the fundraiser, that it would be discontinued. But cuts in funding for programs helping the poor have prompted the ministry to reinstate the event, according to an announcement from Highlands Community Ministries.

The event will feature a simple meal of bread, fruit, cheese and soup, homemade by local chefs. The soup is served in donated pottery which can be purchased with the price of admission. There will also be a silent auction of donated gifts.

A flyer for the event says, “The bowl and a simple meal of soup, bread, cheese and fruit stand as a reminder for us all to support Highland Community Ministries in its efforts to end hunger in our community.”

The fundraiser will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for an adult meal or $25 for an adult meal and a pottery bowl. A meal for a child 12 and under is $5. Checks may be made payable to HCM and mailed to 1140 Cherokee Road, Louisville, Ky., 40204.
