Dr. Judy Bullock received the 2016 Alleluia Award from the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC) during a ceremony on Oct. 6 in Albany, N.Y.
Bullock retired last year as the director of the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Worship, a position she held for 20 years.
The Alleluia Award recognizes a member of the federation for “significant contributions to the mission of the FDLC,” a news statement from the organization said.
The award also recognizes Bullock’s “devotion to formation on the revised ‘Order of Celebrating Matrimony,’ ” it said.
“For two years, she led a task force which provided research on the revised rite, was the principal author on two publications and prepared eight nation-wide workshops to clergy and lay leaders,” the statement said.
Bullock served on the FDLC board of directors for 13 years, including terms as treasurer and vice chair.
She holds a music degree from Bellarmine University, a master’s in theology with specialization in liturgical studies from the University of Notre Dame and a doctorate in education from Spalding University.
Bullock served in the Office of Worship for 26 years in all, the last two decades as director. She developed and implemented archdiocesan formation programs in such areas as liturgy and liturgical music, lay leaders of prayer, Sunday celebrations in the absence of a priest and cantor formation.
Prior to her archdiocesan work, she served as director of music and liturgy at St. Barnabas, St. Lawrence and St. Agnes churches. She also served as an adjunct professor for courses in liturgy and ministry at Spalding and for the Diaconate Formation Program at St. Meinrad Seminary.
As a columnist for The Record, Bullock “contributed to the liturgical education of parishioners” with her column “Liturgy Matters,” the statement said.
Bullock and her husband, Patrick, celebrated 50 years of marriage on Oct. 15. They have three children and six grandchildren.
