Dominican sisters celebrate jubilees

Twenty-three Dominican Sisters of Peace with ties to the Archdiocese of Louisville are celebrating jubilee years in 2012. The sisters, and the jubilee years they are celebrating include:

Celebrating 75 years

Sister Josetta Barnard, a native of Omaha, Neb., has ministered in education in Nebraska, Illinois, Arkansas and Kentucky. She resides at the Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, Ky.

Sister Columa Casey, a native of Greeley, Neb., served at Holy Rosary Academy during her career as an educator and pastoral minister. She also served in New York, Illinois and Nebraska, and currently lives at the Sansbury Care Center.

Celebrating 65 years

Sister Ann Austin Bell, a native of Springfield, Ky., served as a teacher in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she was director of school food services and an administrator at Spalding University, St. Catharine College and Pikeville College. She also served at St. Stephen Martyr School, and now resides at the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Deirdre Cotter, is a native of County Cork, Ireland who has taught in Nebraska, Illinois, New York and Massachusetts. She now lives at the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Ann Regis Hartnett, a native of Cambridge, Mass., has been a teacher, principal and counselor in Louisiana, Tennessee, New York, Massachusetts and Kentucky. She served at Holy Rosary Academy and now lives at the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Ann Frederick Leonard is a native of Belmont, Mass., and has been a teacher at St. Catharine College and was principal at Holy Rosary Academy. She continues to serve as a tutor at the St. Catharine College Resource Center in St. Catharine, Ky.

Sister Maria del Rey Mangan, currently lives at St. Catharine, Ky., and was a teacher, principal and pastoral minister in Nebraska.

Sister Trinita McIsaac served as a teacher in Massachusetts then went on to serve as director of retirement and promoter of mission for the Kentucky Dominicans before retiring to the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Charles Francis McOsker is a native of Lowell, Mass., and has been a teacher and pastoral minister in Illinois, Tennessee, Arkansas, Massachusetts and Indiana. She lives at the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Mary Agnes (Perpetua Marie) Sullivan was a teacher and librarian at Holy Rosary Academy and St. Catharine College. She also taught in schools in New York, Nebraska and Tennessee. She continues to be involved in a ministry of prayer and service in St. Catharine, Ky.

Celebrating 60 years

Sister Mary Otho Ballard is a native of Bardstown, Ky., and has taught at St. Stephen Martyr School in Louisville. She has also served as a pastoral associate and director of religious education at St. Monica Church in Bardstown, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Danville, and at St. Joseph Church in Winchester. She currently lives in St. Catharine, Ky., and is a leader for Contemplative Outreach of Kentucky.

Sister Collette Marie Bauer, a native of Spalding, Neb., has served at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Sts. Simon and Jude churches and also at St. Catharine College and the former St. Catharine Academy.
She has also served with Catholic Charities and at St. Agnes School in Springfield, Ky.

Sister Mary Bernadette Deeney, a native of Lowell, Mass., has been a teacher and administrator in New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Massachusetts. She lives at Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Patricia (John Patrice) Hennessey, a native of Flushing, N. Y., taught at Holy Rosary Academy and worked with refugees and as a spiritual director and in formation ministry for the Kentucky Dominicans. She was a teacher in Nebraska, Illinois and Massachusetts and now lives in St. Catharine, Ky.

Sister Ann Davette Moran, a native of Brooklyn, N. Y., served as an educator in Illinois, Nebraska and New York. She now lives at Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Lois (Rita Clare) Pineau was a teacher at Sts. Simon and Jude School, and also taught in New York, West Virginia and Puerto Rico. She also worked in social services in Massachusetts before retiring to the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Barbara Ann Rioux was a teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary and Sts. Simon and Jude schools in Louisville, and at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Campbellsville, Ky. She also worked in outreach at St. James and St. Brigid churches in Louisville and taught in schools in New York, Tennessee and Massachusetts. She lives in St. Catharine, Ky.

Sister Catharine Martin Smith, a native of Malden, Mass., taught at Sts. Simon and Jude School in Louisville and also at schools in Massachusetts, Illinois and Rhode Island. She lives at the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Mary Helen (Martha Joseph) Thieneman served as a principal and teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Sts. Simon and Jude and St. Thomas More schools in Louisville. She also ministered in pastoral care and served at Jewish Hospital and Sacred Heart Home in Louisville, and at the St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Ky. She lives at the Sansbury Care Center.

Sister Diane Traffas, served as vice president for mission integration for Catholic Health Initiatives and was a missionary in Amakohia, Nigeria. She taught at schools in Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado, and is Motherhouse Coordinator at St. Catherine Convent in Bardstown, Ky., where she resides. She is also a member of the Sponsored Ministries Board for the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

Celebrating 50 years

Sister Helen O’Sullivan served as a teacher at St. Dominic School in Springfield, Ky., and has served as a teacher and principal in Massachusetts and Nebraska. She is a Mission Group Coordinator at the Motherhouse in St. Catharine, Ky.

Sister Rosemary Rule has served as a teacher in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois and Nebraska. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she was a teacher and counselor at Holy Rosary Academy, and today serves as a “parent educator” at Parents As Teachers in Nelson County, Ky. She works as a librarian at St. Gregory School in Samuels, Ky.
