Dominican Sister Gloria Moreno dies

Dominican Sister of Peace Gloria Moreno died Feb. 7 at Sansbury Care Center on the St. Catharine Motherhouse grounds in Springfield, Ky. She was 88 years old and had been a Dominican sister since 1945.

Sister Moreno entered the Eucharistic Missionaries of St. Dominic in New Orleans, La., initially. She led Gregorian chant and other liturgical music. She also ministered to the hearing impaired for decades in the dioceses of New Orleans and Tuscon, Az.

She and other members of her community came to St. Catharine in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She became a Dominican Sisters of Peace in 2009.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Lydia Moreno and several nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 12 at St. Catharine. Burial was in the St. Catharine Motherhouse Cemetery.
