Conventual Franciscan Friar Knopp, 87, dies

Conventual Franciscan Friar Benjamin “Alfred” Knopp died July 8 at Nazareth Home. He was 87.

Father Knopp, a native of Louisville, served as an associate pastor, pastor and chaplain in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kentucky and in the U.S. Navy. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, he served as a hospital chaplain at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital from 2003-2012. He retired from active ministry in 2012.

He is survived by two sisters, Sister of Charity of Nazareth Paul Ann Knopp and Joanna Beha of Louisville.

Visitation will be July 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Church, 6901 Dixie Highway.

The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mount St. Francis Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the mount.
