Conference will focus on gun violence

“Sowing a Non-violent City,” a conference focused on gun violence, will be presented from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Episcopal Christ Church Cathedral, 421 S. Second St.

The day-long conference will include a series of speakers and workshops related to ending gun violence. These sessions were developed from a year-long conversation with community leaders about the violence caused by guns, according to a news release from the Sowers of Justice Network, which is organizing the conference.

“Outstanding, thoughtful speakers will provide powerful testimony speaking to the root causes of epidemic gun violence and ways to address it,” the release said. “Voices from different sectors in our community will dialogue and create direct actions and ways to address it.”

The conference is sponsored and endorsed by a variety of organizations and churches, including Catholic communities of women and men religious, the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry and several Catholic parishes.

A special program for youth will be held the evening before, on Sept. 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. That program is free.

The cost of the Sept. 26 conference is $20 and all are welcome. Scholarships also are available. To register or become a sponsor, visit sowersofjusticenetwork.org.
