Bethlehem High art students connecting with orphans

Art students at Bethlehem High School in Bardstown, Ky., are participating in a global program called “The Memory Project.”

Each student has been paired with an orphan from Bolivia or Ethiopia, who has faced challenges such as abuse and neglect. The students have been communicating with the orphans through letters. They’ve also spent time in their art classes learning to draw portraits, with the goal of creating portraits of the children, according to a statement from
the school.

The portraits will be sent to the children as a way to “bolster their self-worth,” said the statement.
