The St. Luke Institute is an international organization that promotes healthy living and ministry for clergy and religious. It presents the St. Luke Award annually to “an individual whose professional life or charitable works embody the mission of the organization: the rebuilding of the spiritual, physical, emotional and intellectual life of clergy and men and women religious,” an announcement from the institute said.

Archbishop Kurtz “was recognized for his commitment to the well-being of priests and religious throughout his priesthood and episcopal ministry,” the announcement said.

Dr. Emily Cash, director of the Saint Luke Center, a Louisville affiliate of the institute, said in the announcement that the archbishop is an “inspiration” to her. She noted that he has a background in social work and that he welcomed Saint Luke Center to Louisville in 2011.

The center provides psychological and spiritual care and education to priests and men and women religious from the Archdiocese of Louisville and beyond.
