Maple Mount Ursulines from Louisville celebrate jubilees

Two Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph with ties to the Archdiocese of Louisville are celebrating jubilees this year.

Sister George Mary Hagan

Sister George Mary Hagan is celebrating 70 years of religious life. 

She is a native of New Haven, Ky., and has conducted presentations on the Catholic pioneers of Kentucky in parishes and at the Maryland-to-Kentucky Conference for descendants of the Maryland Catholics who settled in Kentucky. 

She was a teacher at St. Andrew School in Harrodsburg when it was part of the Archdiocese of Louisville and in schools in the Diocese of Owensboro. From 1984 to 2003, she served as director of religious education in the Office of Chaplains at Fort Knox. She is now retired at the Motherhouse in Maple Mount, Ky., and active in the Powerhouse of Prayer.


Sister Rita Scott

Sister Rita Scott, a native of Louisville, is celebrating 60 years as an Ursuline Sister. 

She served as an educator for 20 years, from 1970 to 1990, including at St. Brigid School in Vine Grove, Mother of Good Counsel School in Louisville and St. Andrew School in Harrodsburg. She also served in the Diocese of Owensboro and in southeastern Missouri. In Missouri and Harrodsburg she assisted in administering the parish until a priest was assigned. 

She also served as a coach, including girls volleyball in Louisville, and as a substitute bus driver at a number of schools. From 1990-2001, she was associate business administrator of the Ursuline Sisters. Since 2001 she has served as plant administrator at Mount Saint Joseph. She served as an elected councilor on the Ursuline Leadership Council from 2010 to 2016.
