Sixth-graders at St. James School in Elizabethtown, Ky., hosted an “International Day Celebration” on April 29, beginning with a multicultural Mass that celebrated the diverse backgrounds of the school community.
Following Mass, sixth graders presented projects about countries they researched. The presentations focused on “showcasing unique traditions, history and cultures from around the world,” according to the school.
The International Day Celebration aimed to emphasize “the importance of cultural understanding, inclusion and global awareness in education,” the school said in a press release.

“It provides students with a platform to share their knowledge and pride in their heritage while fostering community appreciation for diversity within the school. The event reinforces SJS’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded, compassionate students who value and respect cultures around the world,” the release said.
Sixth grader Nora DeMuth, who presented a project on her Austrian heritage, said the experience helped her learn more about her grandfather’s journey to America, while also giving her the chance to explore other countries through her classmates’ presentations.
