St. Isidore the Farmer
Feast day: May 15
St. Isidore was a man born in the country of Spain about 1,000 years ago.
Isidore married a woman who also became a saint! Her name was Maria, and she is known as St. Maria de la Cabeza.
Isidore worked as a farmer, and his wife cleaned chapels. They had one son together, but he died as a child.
Every morning, before going to work, Isidore would go to Mass. Then, during his workday, he would pray.
Isidore and Maria loved people who were poor. They were known for inviting hungry people into their home and feeding them.
St. Isidore shows us that simple work can be made holy and that saints can be married men and women.
He is the patron saint of farmers. To celebrate his feast day, pray for local farmers and, if you can, visit a local farmer’s market!
