I. The Vigil Service:
At the funeral home, a private home, or in the church, “the Christian community keeps watch with the family in prayer to the God of mercy and finds strength in Christ’s presence.” After the Vigil, when friends and family are still gathered, is an excellent time for extended remembrances and eulogy-like presentations.
II. The Funeral Mass:
The usual pattern of Mass concludes with the Final Commendation after Communion. The Song of Farewell follows, during which the body may be incensed.
III. Rite of Committal:
Brief ceremony at the gravesite, takes place as soon as possible after the Mass.
