Three ordained to the priesthood

The candidates for ordination, from left, Fathers Anthony Cecil, Steven Reeves and Kirby Rust, above, were called forward during the rite of ordination May 25 at the Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville. Father Michael Wimsatt, director of the Archdiocese of Louisville Vocation Office, presented the ordinands to Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz and attested to their worthiness.
Archbishop Kurtz laid his hands on Father Cecil during the ordination rite May 25. The laying on of hands is an ancient gesture signifying the conferral of the Holy Spirit. Father Cecil has been assigned associate pastor of Epiphany and St. Martin de Porres churches.
Archbishop Kurtz presented the paten and chalice to Father Rust during the rite of ordination. Father Rust has been assigned associate pastor of St. James Church in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Father Reeves, above, promised obedience and respect to the archbishop and his successors. He has been assigned associate pastor of St. Boniface and St. Patrick churches.
