St. James School in Elizabethtown, Ky., donated more than 300 used textbooks to International Book Project Inc., a nonprofit agency based in Lexington, Ky., whose mission is to collect and ship books to needy adults and children across the country and the world.
The collection of books was coordinated by Natalie Williams, an eighth-grader at St. James School. Natalie and her grandparents transported the books to the International Book Project office.
St. James has been donating books to the organization for the past three years and has given more than 1,000 books to date.
Dominican Sister of St. Cecilia Marie Hannah Seiler, St. James’ principal, said in a statement that “Stewardship is a way of life at St. James Church and our students are taught that daily in our school.”
Sister Seiler said the work Natalie and her grandparents are doing is a “great reminder to all of us that stewardship is not just about what we are doing for those close to us, but for our planet in terms of recycling and for those in distant regions of the world.”
