The Catholic Education Foundation’s seventh annual “Salute to THE GAME” luncheon set a fundraising record for the event this year.
The luncheon, which celebrates the nationally-recognized St. Xavier-Trinity high school football rivalry game set for Oct. 3, raised $225,000 for the CEF. That easily topped last year’s record of $202,000.
The event, which was held Sept. 30 at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville, attracted 1,300 guests. All proceeds from the event benefit the CEF in its work to support Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Louisville.
Foundation President Richard A. Leichleiter said the luncheon, in only its seventh year, has proven to be a remarkable success.
“This wonderful event continues to set new highs in fundraising, fan excitement and community participation,” he said in a news release from the CEF. “We are
deeply indebted to all of our friends in the St. Xavier and Trinity communities for allowing the foundation to benefit from this storied rivalry.
“In addition, we look forward with great excitement to providing record levels of financial support to our students, families, schools and parish communities across the archdiocese in the year ahead.”
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit was the speaker at this year’s event.
