Six-hundred and seventy-three people signed up for the bone marrow registry drive June 3 at St. Michael Church, 3705 Stone Lakes Drive. The drive was held in honor of six-month old parishioner Addison Miles, who has a rare form of leukemia and is need of a bone marrow transplant. A May 31 article in The Record detailed the infant’s illness.
Additionally, 88 pints of blood were donated to the Red Cross, and more than 120 people donated money to the Be The Match Foundation, the organization that operates the bone marrow registry. It will take about six weeks to determine if anyone who registered at the June 3 drive is a positive match for Addison. In the meantime, she continues to receive chemotherapy at Kosair Children’s Hospital.
