‘Senior’ prom

Assumption High School will host the 11th annual “senior prom” for senior citizens on March 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The prom will take place in Assumption High School’s cafeteria, 2170 Tyler Lane, which allows for steps-free entry.


Assumption’s senior class service group, SALT (Service Action Leadership Team), will hold an afternoon of dancing and refreshments for senior citizens. Music will be provided by Bob Holt and the Prime Time Band. Admission is free, but call Patty King, 454-8402, ext. 2594, in advance to reserve your place. Dress is casual.

Letters of intent

  • Trinity High School senior twins Hunter and Matthew Brewer signed a national letter of intent Feb. 8 to play football for Morehead State University.
  • Nine St. Xavier High School seniors signed national letters of intent to play college athletics Feb. 15. Alex Wesselman, lacrosse, signed with Transylvania University and Danny Belza, soccer, University of Massachusetts.
    Other signees were Neil Henley, soccer, Xavier University; Mitchell Metzger, soccer, Eckerd College; Gabe Stewart, soccer, Lipscomb University; Alex Mattingly, football, Georgetown College; Ryan Oliver, football,  Butler University; C.J. Phillips, football, Morehead State University and George Stone, football, Indiana State University.

Assumption Green

All students, faculty and staff at Assumption High School were invited to “put their mark” on The Assumption Green Sports and Education Complex on Feb. 14. Individuals signed a beam that will be used in the structure of the building.
Besides serving as a sports complex, The Assumption Green will have a green roof, living wall, rain garden and state-of-the-art technologies related to stormwater management, rain harvesting and water conservation, green building techniques, and solar and wind energy.

Merit finalists

Several archdiocesan high school seniors have been named Finalists in the 2012 competition for National Merit scholarships. They are:

  • Sacred Heart Academy — Leetah Kruer and Meredith Lipp.
  • Mercy Academy — Lisa Berger and Gabby Fong.

Volunteers

Mercy Academy students Haley Rohleder, Caitlin Newman and Lillie Pierce received the 2012 Jr. Volunteer of the Year Award from the Spina Bifida Association of Kentucky. As part of their senior service project, they created and led a renovation project to create a multi-purpose room including a full kitchen to help the people served by the association to develop lifeskills. The trio was honored at a Feb. 10 luncheon at Audubon Country Club.

Leadership retreat

Seven St. Xavier High School students have been selected to participate in the Xaverian Brothers-Sponsored Schools Student Retreat next month.
Joe Dawson, Austin Gahafer, Jacob Hoerter, Connor Mackowiak, Sam Melchoir, Cole Pospisil and Bennett Saksefski were chosen from a pool of applicants to represent St. X High School in a five-day leadership retreat held at the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center in West Hartford, Conn., March 4-8. The retreat helps students understand the mission and ministry of the Xaverian Brothers.
