Cemeteries to host Way of the Cross

Catholic Cemeteries will continue its tradition of offering the Stations of the Cross on cemetery grounds around Louisville during Lent.

Each Friday at 1 p.m., children from Catholic schools will lead the Way of the Cross for Young Christians at one of four cemeteries. The stations cover a distance of about 300 to 400 yards.

Following is the 2016 schedule:

  • On Feb. 12, students from St. James School will lead stations at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz is expected to attend this service, which will begin at the St. Phillip Neri Cross in Section 35.
  • Feb. 19 students from St. Francis of Assisi School will lead stations at St. Louis Cemetery, 1167 Barret Avenue. Participants will gather at the Priest Section behind the flag pole.
  • Feb. 26 students from St. Nicholas Academy will lead the stations at St. Michael Cemetery, 1153 Charles Street. Participants will gather at the Priest section.
  • March 4 students from St. Martha School will lead stations at St. John Cemetery, located at the intersection of 26th and Duncan Streets, with the entrance on Duncan Street.
  • March 11 students from Holy Trinity School will lead stations at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road. Participants will gather at the intersection next to the office parking area.
  • March 18 students from St. Bernard School will lead stations at St. Michael Cemetery, 1153 Charles Street. Participants will gather at the Priest Section.

Stations will be cancelled in the case of severe weather. For more information, call the Catholic Cemeteries office at 451-7710.
