Youth ministry volunteers honored at awards program

More than a dozen volunteers in youth and young adult ministry were honored Aug. 10 during a special “volunteer recognition program” at St. Margaret Mary Church. Carole Goodwin, director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Archdiocese of Louisville, reported that 16 volunteer awards were presented, as was a special “Unsung Hero Award.”

That honor was presented to Gary Montgomery, a member of St. Bernadette Church and a former television sports news anchor. It was presented in special recognition for Montgomery’s willingness to constantly say “yes” to those who ask him to help with various aspects of youth and young adult ministry.

Outstanding volunteers honored at the event, and their parishes, were:

Jeffrey Barnett of St. Gabriel Church; William Bond, William Busch, George Kavorkian, Tyler Phillips and Larry Sabo of St. Bernadette Church; Nancy Breslin of St. Joseph Church in Louisville; Christa Bryant of St. Michael Church in Louisville; and Father Bill Burks of St. Pius X Church.

Also, Sarah Greenwell and Tiffany Pickering of St. Theresa Church; Jessica Kubac of St. Rita and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton churches; Kim Lincoln of St. Athanasius Church; Christin Lynch of St. Gabriel Church; and Erik Stearman of St. Lawrence Church.
